Adelaide

Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia. It is also the most populous city in the state of South Australia. Adelaide is also the fifth biggest city in the all of Australia, with 1.2 million in population. The residents of the city of Adelaide are called Adelaidean.

Geography

Adelaide is located by the eastern shores of Gulf St Vincent. This is on the Adelaide Plains, which is just north of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is also close to the great Mount Lofty Ranges. Adelaide is one of the coastal cities of Australia. This city is very close to Gawler and Sellicks Beach. If you like climbing mountain ranges or if you like going to the beach, then you get both in Adelaide. There are many other attractions found in Adelaide that brings in so many tourists every year.

Brief History

Adelaide City was established and founded back in 1836. The name Adelaide is from the queen consort of King William IV named Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen. The original plan for Adelaide was to become a free settled British province situated in Australia. One of the founding fathers of the city, Colonel William Light, is the one who designed the city. He was also the one who chose to put the city near the River Torrens. The River Torrens is where the Kaurna people originally lived. The design of the city is full of light on the boulevards just by the parklands. The main principles that formed the foundations of early Adelaide were commitment to political progressivism and civil liberties, and religious freedom. This is the main reason for the moniker “City of Churches.

Centre

Adelaide is the centre of the seat of government of South Australia. Adelaide is full of financial institutions and government institutions. Most of the important establishments and agencies in South Australia are in Adelaide. These things can all be found in the city centre. The city center is by the cultural boulevard which is at North Terrace, King William Street. There are other establishments and agencies which are located in other parts of the city. Adelaide is very popular for its many festivals. Adelaide is also home to some of the most important sports of Australia. Adelaide also has a large manufacturing industry. Some of the most important things that attracts so many tourists every year are their food, wines, and beaches. The culture and the traditions of the people in Adelaide are also very pleasing, bringing more tourists in. Adelaide is included in the Top 10 World’s Most Liveable Cities Index. The Property Council of Australia is ranked as the most livble city in Australia as of 2011. Adelaide is truly one of the best places in Australia to be in.
